Outline of research
My major research interest is in understanding physiology, pathology, and pharmacology from the viewpoint of three-dimensional structures of proteins, and in developing analysis techniques for this purpose. My current research focuses on a group of membrane proteins called large pore channels, which are responsible for trafficking of ions and other small molecules accross the cell membrane. I am trying to clarify the conformational changes that enable the opening and closing of the channels using cryo-EM.
